The Indian press is beginning to take notice of the Petition to Abolish
H-1B at:

http://www.zazona.com/H1BPetition/

Recently we have received many more signatures but the Petition page
won't be updated until after Aug. 15th when the administrator for that
project gets back from vacation. Until then, keep sending in those
petitions, because as this article implies, hard copies get far more
attention than web petitions like the "Do Not Abolish H1-B Visa" at:

http://www.sulekha.com/petitions/petition.asp?shortcut=/h1b

The pro H-1B petition is nothing but an online poll and will be ignored
by our politicians as long as we continue to send real signatures on
hard-copy to Capitol Hill. That website boasts over 16,000 signatures
but it's not as effective as our 5,000 plus. The website allows
anonymous signatories so people can sign it as many times as they want.
You can see my signature at:
http://www.sulekha.com/petitions/listings.asp?cid=34&post=16191, or by
going to the home page and looking for the signature by "Shame H1B".

Our "Petition to Abolish H-1B" has been online for 2 years and has
received over 5,000 signatures. That's not very impressive when
compared to the huge numbers of American workers who are affected by
H-1B. I hope that's not an indication of the interest that American
workers have in keeping their jobs.

Note: Don't complain to us that printing a copy and putting a stamp on
an envelope is too much trouble. If that's the case then you deserve to
be replaced by an H-1B.

Web campaign to scrap H-1B visas
Vinson Kurian

Thiruvananthapuram , Aug. 3

AMERICAN computer programmers, scientists, mathematicians and engineers
are being called upon to join a concerted Web campaign by signing in a
mass petition requesting the US Congress to scrap the H-1B Visa
Program.

"The Petition to Abolish the H-1B Visa Program" has managed to rope in
close to 5,000 votaries, and their signatures delivered to the
Congress, according to information posted on www.zazona.com, the
spearhead.

"Every year, over 10 lakh Americans are terminated from employment in
the current economy. At the same time, the Government of the US
dispenses over 600,000 H-1B and L-1 Visas annually expressly to fill
American jobs with foreign labour. If you believe the Government should
not be relegating the American people into such wholesale unemployment,
this site provides you with the means to help put this to an end"...
thus goes the argument.

Though disseminated over the Web, the petition ultimately "is not a
cyber object. It is accepted only in hardcopy", the message adds
helpfully. Because, "Congress will never believe the grievances are
real unless the signatures are real also".
