From Webster's Online:
Main Entry: bom7bo
Pronunciation: 'bom-(")bO
Function: noun
1 slang , usually disparaging : MAN, WOMAN used especially of an attractive
but empty-headed person
NOTE to AOL users: To avoid those despotic spam filters, I'm changed bim to
bom, and pi to po.
I recenlty received two emails from people who said they called Senator
Bill Frist's office because of their concern about his proposed alternative
to the Specter immigration bill. My curiosity was aroused because both of
them said that the legislative aid they talked to hung up on them. Of
course I decided to call to see if I would receive similar treatment.
Among other things, the Frist bill increases H-1B by 50,000 in the first
year with 120% increases each year possible. Go here for a comparison chart
of the current bills being pushed through the Senate:

I talked to a bombo named Brenda Maynor. When I asked her how much Frist
was raising H-1B she didn't have a clue, but went on to try to reassure me
that he has protections for American workers. She also said that I
shouldn't worry because the bill hasn't been finalized - of course that got
me real worried.
When I asked her what kind of protections were in the bill she tried to
change the subject by asking if I had read the bill, and I said no. I asked
if the bill contains a "labor market test" but she didn't know what I was
talking about.
I told her that since she was so knowledgeable about the bill perhaps she
could tell me where in the bill the protections are. She couldn't, and then
I asked her how much of the bill she has read especially considering she
didn't know how many H-1Bs would be added. I could sense she was about to
hang up on me, so I told her that I will read the bill and call her the
next day.
Well here it is folks, the Frist Bill:

Today I talked to a bombo named Tom Joyce because Brenda the bombo wasn't
available. I first asked him the same question about H-1B and he said it
would be raised by 1 million (the correct number is 50,000). Even worse he
saw no problem with a million H-1Bs!. I then asked, "how can Sen Frist
justify this huge increase when there are so many unemployed high-tech
workers?" He answered that companies can no longer find educated workers so
the only way our companies will keep the jobs from being outsourced to
foreign countries is to bring in more H-1Bs. I asked him if Frist is
listening to anybody but Bill Gates, and then the line went dead.
I have looked over the bill and cannot see any protections for American
workers. Even if there was some kind of labor market test it would be just
as worthless as the one we have for green cards.
It's very obvious that Sen. Frist has hired a bunch of bombos to man his
phone lines. They are probably given a small sheet of bullet points because
they don't know anything about the actual legislation. It seems that
hanging up the phone is their routine way of handling callers who question
the pomp-daddy.
I still think it's worthwhile to call Frist's office. At least you can tell
me about your experiences and perhaps I'll do a follow-up newsletter, and
it's actually quite entertaining to see how stupid and unethical they are.
Here are the things you need to remember to do:
* Go to the Frist website and at a minimum look over the summary of the
bill.
http://frist.senate.gov/_files/031706section.pdf
* Be sure to have the NumbersUSA table in front of you so that can't BS
you. Believe me they will try.
* Be sure to ask for the name whomever you are talking to, and ask for
their last name because they won't give it unless you ask. That will enable
us to get a list of Frist's bombos.
* After the call, write things down so you remember them clearly.
* When you send them to me, let me know if you wish to remain anonymous or
whether I can use your name.
* I will take stories about calls to the other Senators also, especially
Specter, Kennedy, and McCain. I'm sure their bombos are equally bad. You
can find out who else to call by going to the FAIR or NumbersUSA sites, or
by looking at my recent newsletters.
Here are the other two letters I received:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I phoned Senator Frist asking basic questions:
Is it the intent of the Senator that U.S. population increase to =
billion? If so, how does that affect our quality of life, dependence on
foreign oil, and such? Has the Senator even considered the impact? "Im
certain that he has. Ill pass along your concerns."
All Frist staff would say, repeatedly, is "this bill is about border
enforcement." I ask, explain to me how increasing H-1B with no requirement
to consider U.S. workers has anything to do with enforcement. Explain who
benefits and who loses. When I apply for a job the Senate has forced me to
complete with the entire third world. Bodyshops flood resumes to job ads.
The hiring manager is under no legal obligation to give any preference to
Americans. (In fact it would be illegal if he did give any preference to
Americans.)
"Ill pass along your concerns." He then hung up on me.
[Berry also called Feinstein's office]
Since Feinstein staff could not explain why there are no worker protections
for H-1B in this bill, I asked if Feinstein could come to the phone. "No."
If I were Bill Gates would she come to the phone? At least I am in her
district." (silence)

I just got off the phone with Frist's office. I demanded to know why Frist
was talking "enforcement" and then slips in an increase of 20 million
foreign workers and their dependents into his bill S.2454
The staffer got all hissy and said "well this is not finalized and I can
not speak for the Senator". I then demanded to know WHO working for
Senator Frist in Senator Frist's office can speak for Senator Frist on
this matter, if she could not? I was pissed off (my tone of voice) and she
hung up on me
Keep calling.
