Reporter seeking interviews with HP workers

<<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1568 -- 10/12/2006 >>>>>

On 09/18/2006 I published a newsletter titled: "LA Times - Intel and HP
demand more H-1B visas". In it, HP was lobbying for more H-1Bs at the same
time it announced huge layoffs.

"We appreciate the broad bipartisan, bicameral commitment -- but
we believe the time for words has passed," the CEO Council ---
which includes Mark Hurd of Hewlett-Packard Co. and Paul Otellini
of Intel Corp. --- wrote to congressional leaders last week.
"It's time to act."

The morale of HP workers has to have taken a beating lately. Ed Frauenheim
is going to write a story about HP workers and how they feel about their
company.

Ed Frauenheim is one of the best journalists out there on high-tech job
issues. If there are some HP people on this list that want to talk to him,
please use his email address:

> about HPmorale

Hi Rob,

Thanks again for offering your help with my story about HP morale. Here's
the gist of my request:

I'm a reporter with Workforce Management magazine trying to locate current
and former Hewlett-Packard employees for a story about morale at HP. I'm
curious about how the recent spying scandal at the company has affected
employee attitudes, as well as whether that dustup is seen as part of a
longer series of morale-dampening decisions at HP-including offshoring
moves, layoffs and use of H-1B guest workers. On the other hand, I'd like
to know if HP employees have been rallying around the
efforts of CEO Mark Hurd to improve the company.

I'd be willing to describe sources as anonymous, if that's the only way
they felt comfortable talking.

I hope to speak with sources this week, on the phone or in person.

Workforce Management (www.workforce.com) covers business strategy and
people management issues.

I'm a journalist who has covered tech and labor issues for close to a
decade. I worked as at CNET News.com for four years prior to coming to
Workforce Management about a year ago. I've also written for the San Jose
Mercury News and the Oakland Tribune chain of papers.

Thanks for your time and help.

Ed
